Prof Price calls out the importance of getting the UK’s health service back on track, interview with St George’s House

Professor Pat Price appeared in the most recent episode of St George's House "In Conversation" series to discuss the UK's healthcare sector on 29 June 2023.

St George's House is a society that strives to "nurture wisdom through dialogue," creating a space where people can debate and learn more about a variety of topics. The "In Conversation" series highlights distinguished people in a variety of fields, in the hopes that viewers will engage and learn. This space allowed for a productive place for Prof Price to champion the importance of prioritizing patients in the healthcare system, and to highlight the downward trend in the UK's national cancer plan.

I feel that cancer is slipping down the UK agenda now, and that's what we've got to reverse, because it does matter. One in two of us [will be diagnosed with cancer], it really does matter. And we can get better.

The conversation did cite some happy news, with the major advances in technology in the last ten years, but Price drove home the point that healthcare workers need to be given the tools they need to succeed.

As frontline staff, we want to be efficient… and if we put the patients at the forefront of this and give the staff the tools they need to do sensible things, then we can seriously move forward and we can turn this around.
