Prof Price comments on rising cancer diagnoses and wait times in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is experiencing a crisis in cancer wait times

Professor Price was featured on several media outlets in August, reacting as it was revealed that red-flagged breast cancer patients are waiting up to seven weeks to be seen.

Said Prof Price, "Sad, totally unacceptable and not really a cancer service.  If you're waiting that long, that's not even an urgent service."

Prof Price also appeared on BBC Radio Derry to discuss the cancer crisis in Northern Ireland and the particular issues in the region.

Cancer Cases Could Continue to Rise to a New Person Every 2 Minutes

Prof Price provided commentary on new research showing that in the next fifteen years, there will be 6.3 million new people who will receive a cancer diagnosis.

She said to the Independent, “Unless we act fast, more people will be diagnosed and die needlessly of cancer. Ministers must ensure the upcoming cancer plan is fully funded, boosts treatment capacity, and ends delays to treatment."

Cancer Crisis Solutions

Prof Price also spoke with LBC’s Nick Ferrari on his radio programme, discussing a wide range of solutions to the cancer care crisis, including the National Cancer Plan, and what we should expect from the Government if they are serious about meeting the challenge.

During the segment beginning at 1:54:00 of the recording, she said, "I think we know what to do, it’s how we do it… the waits are far too long."
